The five basic elements – space, water, air, fire, and earth; are present inside our body as well as in our environment.
Just like there is a Cycle of creation, cycle of control and cycle of the balance of the 5 elements, when we examine the sequence, we can see that initially, it was only space (first element) and through the heat of desire, it melted to form water (second element).
It then got transformed into the air (third element). The Chinese call this air as breath or wood element. This breath or wood/air creates Fire (fourth element) inside us.
Ancient Yoga texts mention that through this breath and through the control of Pranayama, we awaken the Divine fire or energy – Kundalini. Thus, Fire turns into Earth (fifth element) and finally Earth creates Space again.
Our main role play as human beings is to understand and maintain the balance of these five elements to live a perfect, peaceful and content life.
