Anxiety and depression are highly prevalent disorders and are often co-morbid with each other.
Anxiety disorder includes generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobia, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic disorder.
Depression can come from a number of sources, but they generally fall into two categories.
Chronic depression arises when we have unresolved negative feelings often as a result of our childhood, that makes us feel sad, bad and hopeless. Chronic depression can change the way our brain works and makes it more difficult for us to get well.
Reiki is based upon a holistic view of promoting whole –person (mind-body) health and shares the similar principles to World Health Organization (WHO) definition of health which says “ a state of complete physical mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
Reiki therapy removes anxiety, feeling of failure and loneliness which are some of the main causes of depression. Several research has proved the positive effects of Reiki on anxiety and depression.
Reiki restores the normal condition of our body by using the universal energy to relax. Relaxation improves the secretion of dopamine and serotonin in our brain. Research has revealed that depressed patients exhibit serum deficiencies in serotonin and dopamine.
