In Yoga, Mudras are symbolic gestures which are practiced with the hands and fingers. They facilitate the flow of energy in the body and allow you to go inwards. Mudras usually have specific purposes and functions, and there are 100s of Mudras that are used for various purposes. Using Mudras appropriately brings the mind, body and soul in balance and harmony.
According to Yogic sages, the five elements (fire, water, wind, earth, ether), are connected to our five fingers. Our hands are believed to hold energetic points for these elements. Each of these five elements also have their own function and purpose and using the mudras brings an individual in direct synchronicity with the rhythm of the universe.
